Staff Backend Engineer

Honor seeks a seasoned Backend Engineer to shape the architectural foundation of our next-generation operations tools. You’ll take a lead role in driving the technical strategy, directly influencing our internal processes and business efficiency. Your ability to envision scalable systems, champion their development, and foster engineering excellence will be instrumental in achieving Honor’s strategic goals.

Responsibilities

  • Architectural Leadership: Design and independently architect robust, scalable backend systems in Python that anticipate future growth and meet the evolving needs of operations.
  • Strategic Vision: Influence the product roadmap for operations tools, proactively identifying how backend systems can drive better decision-making and streamlined operations across the company.
  • Technical Guidance: Collaborate with and mentor other engineers to provide technical direction and facilitate team efficiency.
  • Stakeholder Partnership: Actively engage with operations teams to deeply understand their pain points, propose innovative technical solutions, and influence overall process improvement.
  • Iterative & Adaptive Approach: Maintain an iterative development cycle while strategically balancing near-term needs with the long-term technical health of the platform.
  • React Frontend Proficiency: Ensure seamless integration with our React frontend.

Qualifications

  • Extensive Architectural Expertise: A proven track record in designing and building large-scale backend systems, exhibiting significant architectural ownership and independent decision-making ability.
  • Python Mastery: Exceptional depth and hands-on expertise with Python.
  • Strategic Influence: Demonstrated ability to drive technical decision-making, translate business goals into strategic system design, and influence cross-team alignment.
  • Mentorship & Collaboration: An aptitude for leading technical discussions, providing guidance to other engineers, and fostering a collaborative engineering culture.
  • Passion for Operational Efficiency: Keen interest in how technology can enhance and optimize core business processes.
  • Remote Communication Excellence: A proven expert in building relationships and driving alignment within distributed teams, prioritizing proactive, transparent communication.

Our range reflects the hiring range for this position. We use national average to determine pay as we are a remote first company. Individual pay is based on a number of factors including qualifications, skills, experience, education, and training.


Base pay is just a part of our total rewards program. Honor offers generous equity packages that increase with position level and responsibilities, and a 401K with up to a 4% employer match.

Hiring Salary Range

$184,000—$225,000 USD

Most of our positions are remote/work from home and do not require permanent relocation.
